Apologies : Gabrielle, Beverley
Attendees : Lynette, Katie, Vic, Trish, Heather, Catherine, Margaret, Heidi
Business : Beverley, Heather, Katie, Vic and Ros to choose titles for next cycle (for those who want to ask Santa for something) and everyone to think of the Faraday Month book for Trish.
Discussion : The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy had to take second place to a lengthy exchange of fire stories as everyone debriefed. The book was much enjoyed by all for it’s fun and absurdity and was considered a good book to lift spirits post fires. The score was a healthy 3.8.
NEWS FLASH : Trish read this book . . . . many years ago!
FYI : During the discussion we found that Peter Jones was the book in the original play and 1981 TV series (available through the Library). “The creators had wanted someone with a “Peter Jonesy sort of voice” and after several rejections asked Jones himself.” (Wikipedia) and “Voiced by a bemused Peter Jones, who quite genuinely didn’t understand some of the mind-boggling things he was often asked to read out – the nature and fate of the Babel Fish, the story of the planet Magrathea, the action of compound interest to ensure you a table at the Restaurant at the End of the Universe, or the workings of the Infinite Improbability Drive” (BBC Comedy)
Next book : The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie by Muriel Spark.
