Discussion : While we enjoyed The Help for the most part, many of us were slightly disturbed that such heavy material – segregation, civil rights, racism and injustice – had been dealt with so lightly. Some characters also were under developed and the men were practically non-existent. We were unsure whether things have changed very much in the deep South, or whether great strides have been made since the early 1960s when the novel is set.
The Help by Kathryn Stockett scored 3.
